A Busy Start to the New Term!

September has certainly got off to a flying start! We’ve welcomed new young people and new staff across Berrylands School and our Alternative Provision, made some big improvements to our sites, and have plenty more exciting developments on the way.

We’ve been busy investing in our sites, with new toilets, cabins and storage sheds. A special thank you to Ollie, who spent a considerable chunk of time painting our buildings across Berrylands and Hogsmill. They’re looking considerably smarter for it!

We’re also planning to expand into new land at Berrylands, creating additional learning spaces for our active young people, with more room to explore, build, create, move and learn.

Learning at Berrylands continues to grow too. We now have three members of staff supporting academic learning tasks, giving our young people even more individual support and helping us tailor learning to their needs, interests and abilities.

We’ve invested in new laptops and Chromebooks, with enhanced filtering and monitoring to keep young people safe online. They’re primarily for learning, but completed work earns some carefully monitored Golden Time too.

Meanwhile, our once tiny little Berrylands chicks are now fully grown hens and laying eggs! Better still, we’re using their eggs in our cooking. From tiny chicks to Friday Feast ingredients in just a few months! You’ll find a link to the latest Friday Feast menu below.

There’s lots happening, lots still to come, and plenty to be excited about. As we continue to challenge our young people, we must also remember their combined histories and experiences of education. Our successful approach has always been about baby steps, building trust, confidence and engagement carefully rather than rushing the process. We are incredibly proud of our attendance, which we see as a very real sign that your children want to come to school. For many of our young people, that is a significant achievement in itself and one we should never take for granted.

A huge welcome to everyone joining us this term, and thank you to our young people, staff and families for being part of it.

Stephen
